Fraserburgh U18 v Ayr United U18 (SFA Youth Cup 2nd Round)

Scottish FA Youth Cup 2nd Round, Fraserburgh v Ayr United, Wednesday 19th October 2022

The youngsters from Ayr made the perfect start when Lyall Holding forced the ball home from a fifth minute corner. Ten minutes later a Callum Kelly cross found its way to Stuart Laird who fired in a shot just off target.

Disaster struck the home side on 24 minutes when Adam Henderson fouled Jason Campbell inside the penalty area and the Ayr striker dusted himself off to net from the spot kick. Brook Dreghorn tried his luck from outside the box on 40 minutes but Sam Inglis did well to save. Two minutes later John West and Lewis Allan had efforts blocked for the visitors.

Half Time: Fraserburgh 0 Ayr United 2

Ayr kept pressing and had the first chance of the second half when CJ Johnston saw his shot fly just off target. On 51 minutes Inglis did well to tip away a drive by Dreghorn. A series of bookings and substitutions for both sides saw a scrappy spell in the match before Dreghorn once again saw a shot fly just over the crossbar on 71 minutes.

The Broch were starting to exert some pressure and Kelly brought out a good save from Ollie Ecrepont two minutes later. On 75 minutes the home side were back in the match when Henderson bulleted home a header from close range. With three minutes remaining Ricky Milne found Flynn McKay who saw his shot well saved by Ecrepont.

A minute later Kelly raced onto a through ball and shot wide under a challenge by Lyall Holding who received a second yellow card for unsporting behaviour, reducing the visitors to ten men. As the Broch pushed for an equaliser tempers became frayed with several player being yellow carded as the game came to a conclusion. After the final whistle Cameron Robertson was red carded for insulting behaviour towards the referee.
