GPH Builders Merchants Aberdeenshire League, Inverurie Loco Works v Fraserburgh, Monday 8th August 2022

A very youthful Broch team got off to a perfect start in the Aberdeenshire League with an excellent 4-2 victory over their hosts. The Harlaw Park side took an early lead when Anton Chauvin headed home a second minute corner. The visitors grew into the game and levelled on 23 minutes when Callum Kelly fired home from close range after his initial effort had been blocked.

The Broch striker then turned provider setting up Ross Taylor to tap in from 4 yards out after tricking his way past a Locos defender on the bye-line before crossing for the Black and Whites captain who couldn’t miss. On the half hour Kelly had another chance after being released by Ethan Sutherland’s through ball, but he rifled a shot just over the crossbar after outmuscling his marker.

On 36 minutes Sam Inglis did well to save from Taylor Mason after the Locos player found space on the left side of the penalty area. A corner from the left found Sam Walker three minutes later but he headed over as Locos pressed for an equaliser. Inglis then redeemed himself after a poor kick out fell to Mason but the Broch keeper did well to block the striker’s effort.

Five minutes after the break the Broch extended their lead when Kelly set up Taylor for a carbon copy of his first goal after winning the ball back on the bye-line before squaring it for an easy finish. The visitors went in search for more goals and Kelly was unlucky to see his lob cleared off the line after 61 minutes.

At the other end Chauvin had a header cleared off the line for Locos but the Broch youngsters broke away and Stuart Laird fired home a sweeping half volley from Taylor’s cross. As the match entered the final few minutes Ethan Duncalf set up Mason but the Locos captain saw his half volley well saved by Inglis.

Cameron Robertson and Nicol Dall then combined to set up Kelly but Loius Amann pulled off a good save. Right on full time Morgan Conway beat substitute keeper Daniel Cummings with a rasping drive from 25 yards to give the home side some consolation.
