Morrison Motors Turriff Aberdeenshire Shield Quarter Final, Fraserburgh v Aberdeen University, Wednesday 16th November 2022
After a fairly uneventful start to the game Paul Campbell and Callum Kelly combined on 19 minutes to set up a chance which the former flashed wide of goal. A minute later Zane Laird found Kelly with a clever pass but the young Broch striker saw his curling shot go past the far post.
Aberdeen Uni survived a scare on 25 minutes when a scramble inside their area ensued after Jamie Beagrie’s header had been blocked, William West and Campbell both saw their efforts thwarted by a dogged visitor’s defence.
Ryan Sargent then sliced a shot wide from Laird’s cross on 32 minutes before the winger finally broke the deadlock on 45 minutes when he collected a Greg Buchan pass on the left of the penalty area and fired a shot past Ben Barbour into the far corner. Sargent almost turned provider just before the half time whistle when Campbell got on the end of the cross but Barbour made the save with his face.

Two minutes after the break Laird tried his luck from distance and substitute keeper Frederik Bjerregaard was happy to see the Broch striker’s long range effort fly just over the crossbar. Uni’s first chance came on 50 minutes when Oscar Forbes shot went just wide of Paul Leask’s near post.
Two minutes later Logan Watt double the home side’s lead when he clipped the ball home after Campbell had picked him out with a pinpoint pass. Scott Barbour was introduced into the fray on the hour and took less than a minute to make his mark turning home the ball after Bjerregaard had gifted him the ball.
The Broch’s leading scorer scored a second on 82 minutes firing home a rebound after Campbell had seen his shot saved by Bjerregaard. West went close two minutes later picking the ball up in midfield before striding forward and smashing a 25 yarder off the crossbar.
