GPH Builders Merchants Aberdeenshire League, Fraserburgh v Turriff United, Monday 22nd August 2022
The young Broch started brightly and Callum Kelly had a shot well saved on the third minute. Turriff took the lead on 7 minutes when Murray Thompson’s cross was headed down and into the net by Alfie Knox. The same player went close ten minutes later when his raking drive flew just wide of the upright. At the other end Zane Laird set up Kelly who saw his shot deflected over.
The home side levelled on 21 minutes when Zane Laird’s corner was headed home by Aaron Miller from close range. Zane Laird went on a mazy run on 35 minutes which ended with a shot into the side netting. A minute later his younger brother Stuart saw a free kick comfortably saved by Tim Findlay in the visitor’s goal. Just before the break Ebube Anyaegbunam fired in a shot which was tipped over by Sam Inglis in the home goal.

The Broch came within a post width of retaking the lead on 48 minutes when Miller cut the ball back to Ryan McLean who saw his shot rebound off the post. The home side continued to press and Stuart Laird found Kelly on the touchline, he drove into the box before seeing his low drive well saved. The pressure told on 55 minutes when Zane Laird set up his brother Stuart who curled the ball past Findlay in the visitor’s goal.
On the hour Rory Brown tested Inglis in the Broch goal but he was equal to the task tipping the Turriff youngster’s shot over the crossbar. Four minutes later Knox found space inside the box and fired home to level the score again. Back came the Broch with Zane Laird crossing for Miller who brought out a good save by Findlay. Callum Nicol went close for the visitors on 71 minutes with a drive which flew past Inglis’ left hand post.
Into the last fifteen minutes and both teams were looking for the winner. Cameron Robertson sent Zane Laird clear on goal but he saw his shot saved. At the other end Kyle Gordon went close on two occasions, first he saw a shot deflected wide then on 84 minutes he found space six yards out but Inglis produced a wonder save to keep the score level. As the game entered injury time a long ball forward by Inglis picked out Zane Laird on the left and his cross was tapped home by Kelly to secure all three points for the Broch.
