Broch score three to break down stubborn Lossie

With this being their fourth game in eleven days Mark Cowie freshened things up from the 3-3 draw against Forres Mechanics with Lewis Davidson, Michael Rae & Luke Barbour all returning to the starting line up and Owen Cairns, Sean Butcher & Kieran Simpson dropping to the bench. There was also a place for Ryan Sargent for the first time this season.

The Broch got off to the perfect start with barely 20 seconds on the clock when Lewis Davidson and Scott Barbour combined on the left and when the ball ricocheted into the path of Greg Buchan he was able to stab the ball past Stewart Black in the Lossiemouth goal. On 12 minutes Jamie Beagrie fired a great diagonal pass out to Paul Campbell on the right and he drove along the by-line before firing an inviting cross into the Lossiemouth six yard area just out of the reach of Greg Buchan.

Two minutes later Luke Barbour played the ball back to William West but the Broch captain saw his effort always rising over the crossbar. On 16 minutes Greg Buchan pulled a corner back to the edge of the box and Jamie Beagrie’s half volley went just wide of the far post. Midway through the first half the ball broke to Ryan Stuart at the edge of the visitor’s penalty area but his shot went well wide. On 27 minutes Paul Young found Scott Barbour with a ball forward and the Broch striker drove past two Lossiemouth defenders before firing an effort across the home keeper which went just wide.

Two minutes later a free kick was only half cleared by the Broch defence but once again Ryan Stuart’s effort was off target going just over the crossbar. The Broch were looking for a second goal and nearly got it on 37 minutes when Paul Young crossed to the back post but William West headed wide. Just before the break Lewis Davidson’s marauding run on the right saw him pull the ball back to Paul Campbell but the in form striker swept his effort high over the bar.

The second half was nine minutes old when Michael Rae played the ball forward to Scott Barbour in behind the Lossiemouth defence and he ran on into the penalty area before slotting the ball between Stewart Black’s legs and into the far corner of the net to double the Broch’s lead. The Black & Whites striker should had added another on 62 minutes after a misjudgement in the home defence saw him through on goal but the Lossiemouth keeper did well to save with his legs.

Four minutes later Greg Buchan’s corner from the right was met by Jamie Beagrie but once again Stewart Black was in the right place to save. On 71 minutes Michael Rae played the ball out to substitute Ryan Sargent who crossed from the left which was only half cleared and Rae saw his thundering effort fly just over.

Three minutes after that let off Lossie got lucky again when William West played the ball into Scott Barbour inside the home penalty area but his shot crept just wide of the post. With three minutes remaining Scott Barbour and Andrew Hannar combined outside the area to set up Paul Campbell and he drilled the ball past Stewart Black at his near post to make the final score 3-0 to the Broch.
