Breedon Scottish Highland Football League, Fraserburgh v Buckie Thistle, Saturday 19th November 2022

A large crowd was inside the Bellslea to see two of the top SHFL teams face off and it was the home side who almost got their noses in front on 9 minutes when Paul Young picked out Scott Barbour on the right and the Broch striker beat Lewis Mackinnon before firing just wide.

Midway through the half Barbour charged down a clearance by Ryan Fyffe and flicked the ball past Balint Demus to give the Broch the lead. On 25 minutes Lewis Davidson was tripped inside the box by Jack Murray but Demus kept out Barbour’s spot-kick with a fine save.

Bryan Hay went close on 27 minutes when his header from Davidson’s corner went just over the crossbar. Two minutes later Buckie had their first chance of the game when a free-kick was cleared only as far as Marcus Goodall however his shot went high over Joe Barbour’s goal.

The second half followed the same pattern as the first with Jamie Beagrie picking up a loose ball 20 yards out and firing in a shot which fizzed past Demus’ far post. On 59 minutes Davidson and Beagrie were both thwarted by desperate blocks as the home side looked to double their lead.

On the hour Greg Buchan whipped in a corner which Sean Butcher managed to head wide. Barbour then tried to beat Demus with a free-kick but the Buckie keeper made a comfortable save. Demus was in action again on 67 minutes this time producing a fine save to deny William West’s long range shot.

Two minutes later Buckie substitute Sam Urquhart got the break of the ball inside the Broch area but saw his shot go agonisingly wide of Barbour’s near post. The game became a bit ragged with both sides having players booked for fouls one of which resulted in Davidson firing in a shot which Demus did well to hold onto. Right at the end Max Barry saw an effort fly just wide of goal.
