Recap
Breedon Scottish Highland Football League, Fraserburgh v Rothes, Saturday 29th October 2022
The Broch had an early chance when Logan Watt and Paul Campbell combined to set up Greg Buchan in the first minute, who shot narrowly wide. Two minutes later Buchan closed down Rothes keeper Sean McCarthy with the ball rebounding off the Broch midfielder just wide of goal. Rothes almost took a shock lead when Jack Maley’s pass behind the home defence found Aidan Wilson who saw his shot cannon off the post. On 9 minutes William West found Campbell on the edge of the box, he laid the ball off to Sean Butcher with McCarthy making a good save from the striker’s effort.
Six minutes later Alan Pollock tried his luck from the right side of the penalty area which Joe Barbour saved comfortably. Campbell did well to win the ball back on 17 minutes and fed Butcher but McCarthy closed down the angle and blocked the shot with his legs. Ten minutes after that chance Watt played the ball to Butcher who crossed to the back post where Ross Aitken headed it towards goal with McCarthy once again in the right place to save. Just before the break Butcher picked up a yellow card for a foul.

Two minutes into the second half Watt tried an acrobatic effort from Buchan’s cross which flew over the crossbar. On 62 minutes the pair combined again this time Watt heading over from Buchan’s cross to the back post. Paul Young was then booked for dissent before the Broch midfielder saw a shot well saved by McCarthy after Watt had set him up. Substitute Scott Barbour tried to break the deadlock on 72 minutes firing in a shot which went just wide of goal.
Three minutes later Barbour and Campbell combined to set up Watt who curled an effort just wide. At the other end Matheus Machado went on a driving run which ended with his shot going just wide of the far post. Young saw a thunderbolt from 25 yards on 78 minutes cannon off the crossbar and Campbell’s effort from the rebound was blocked.
Tempers were getting frayed and Buchan and Wilson were yellow carded for pushing on 80 minutes before Pollock was booked for a shocking challenge on Campbell as the Broch striker raced away from him. Aitken was booked for his reaction to the tackle. Right on time Zane Laird was upended by Bruce Milne inside the box and Campbell swept home the resultant spot kick. Three minutes into injury time Campbell rifled home a second after Laird had set him up. The Broch striker almost netted a third two minutes later but his shot was blocked.
