Breedon Scottish Highland Football League, Banks O’ Dee v Fraserburgh, Friday 14th October 2022
Dee and Broch met for the second time in three days this time in the Highland League with both sides looking for three points to climb the table. Neil Gauld flicked the ball onto Lachie Macleod but the striker fired his shot over the crossbar. On 9 minutes Ryan Sargent cross was only cleared as far as Greg Buchan who saw his first time shot fly wide.
A minute later Dee took the lead when Lewis Crosbie latched onto the ball after a mistake in the visitor’s defence and dispatched the ball past Joe Barbour into the net. The Broch almost levelled on 12 minutes when Sargent found Scott Barbour with a flick and the forward brought out a great save from Andy Shearer who tipped the ball round the post.
Kane Winton was then booked for simulation before he found space midway through the half before firing well over. On 32 minutes Robert Armstrong forced Barbour to punch away a free kick. At the other end Sargent passed up a great opportunity after Connor Wood had slipped him through, sliding the ball wide of Shearer’s right hand post.
Buchan then set up Barbour in the 37th minute but once again Shearer did well to tip the shot over. Dee almost snatched a second when Macleod’s cross fell to Gauld who fired wide. Just before the break Neale Allan was yellow carded for almost cutting Sean Butcher in half.
Half Time: Banks O’ Dee 1 Fraserburgh 0
A minute after the break Wood burst onto a William West pass only to see his net-bound shot deflected wide. Barbour then crossed for Sargent but once again his effort from a header drifted wide of target. Dee almost made it 2-0 on 51 minutes when Winton headed towards goal but Paul Young was on hand to clear off the line.
It was end to end fare with Young setting up Barbour for the visitors, however once again the Dee defence stood firm blocking the Broch striker’s effort. Winton then passed to Mark Gilmour who could only watch as his shot crept wide. Butcher then found his way into the referee’s notebook, getting a yellow card for a foul on Winton.
The Broch goal had a huge let off on 81 minutes when a driving run by Winton ended with Craig Macaskill seeing his shot blocked before Lachie Macleod lashed the rebound over. Hamish Macleod then saw another shot tipped over by Barbour as Dee tried to seal the points. The Broch levelled on 87 minutes when Barbour’s corner was powered into the net by Bryan Hay.
