Recap

Breedon Scottish Highland Football League, Lossiemouth v Fraserburgh, Saturday 13th August 2022

Lossiemouth almost took an early lead when Ross Archibald picked the ball up wide on the left before cutting in and trying a lob which just dipped over Joe Barbour’s crossbar. However it was the Broch who took the lead with their first meaningful attack of the match on 9 minutes when Bryan Hay found Paul Campbell in space on the right and his cross was controlled by Scott Barbour who swivelled and found the net with a precise finish.

The visitors thought they had scored again on 12 minutes when Barbour’s cross was met with a bullet header by Ryan Sargent but the far-side assistant raised his flag for offside. Sean Butcher then headed a Campbell corner wide but it wasn’t long until the Broch did score again. A Logan Watt free kick was nodded into his own net by Lewis McAndrew under pressure from Butcher. William West then went close with a curling shot on 26 minutes.

Three minutes later Butcher found Kieran Simpson with a lay-off but the young defender’s shot was always rising over the crossbar. West created another chance for Campbell when his cross was cleared to the edge of the box but the Broch striker couldn’t find the target with a ferocious drive. Just before the break Paul Young threaded a through ball to Campbell who found Barbour and last season’s top scorer made no mistake to make it 3-0.

Half Time: Lossiemouth 0 Fraserburgh 3

It only took the Broch 4 minutes to extend their lead when Butcher was left unmarked to head home Barbour’s corner from the left. Six minutes later the duo combined to make it 5-0 when Butcher nodded home Barbour’s pin-point cross. The Broch then made a couple of substitutions with Aidan Combe replacing Bryan Hay and Jordan Guild taking over from Butcher.

Midway through the half Combe and Barbour combined only for Logan Ross in the Lossie goal to deny the Broch striker his hat-trick with a fine block. Zane Laird replaced Campbell with 19 minutes to go. Sargent crossed for Barbour but once again he missed the target with a header.

Further goals did arrive in the space of a minute though. Firstly on 75 minutes good work by Laird on the right saw fellow substitute Combe flick the ball home from close range. The Broch’s seventh goal came almost immediately from the restart. Laird drove forward into the box and crossed for Barbour who gleefully accepted the chance to complete his hat-trick.
