Breedon Scottish Highland Football League, Fort William v Fraserburgh, Saturday 31st July 2021, Bellslea Park, Fraserburgh, Kick Off 3:00PM

 The Broch secured their second win of the season in the Highland League thanks to two goals in each half. Gary Harris’ was the main difference between the two sides along with Scott Barbour’s fourth goal in successive games. A much changed Fort William playing their home game at Bellslea Park never stopped running and will take heart from their performance.

The Broch’s first effort came on 5 minutes when Gary Harris picked up a pass from Ryan Sargent but shot straight at the keeper. Five minutes after that another left wing cross by Sargent picked out Logan Watt who brought out another good save from Matuesz Kulbacki.

In the 16th minute Kieran Simpson returned a cross into the Fort penalty area but Scott Barbour couldn’t direct his header on target. Four minutes later the visitors took the lead when Sargent broke clear on the left and picked out Harris at the back post who slid the ball home from close range.

Barbour and Harris combined on 24 minutes but the latter saw his shot beaten away by the keeper. Ten minutes later Fort had their first real attempt of the game when Connor Moore set up Mark MacKenzie but he shot over from just outside the box.

Two minutes before the break Lewis Duncan and Harris combined on the right wing with the latter firing in a low cross which Barbour forced home from close range to double the Broch’s lead. On 45 minutes Darren Brew broke clear on the right side of the box but his flashing shot went beyond the far post. At the other end Grant Campbell fired just wide after Duncan’s clever near post corner.

The Broch were straight back onto the attack a minute after the break when Sargent’s cross to the near post from the left was poked towards goal by Paul Young but Kulbacki pulled off a good save. Four minutes later Barbour fed the ball to Sargent and then took the return pass in his stride before clipping a ball into the middle which was headed wide by Young.

On 57 minutes Duncan did well to break free on the right and pull a cross back to Watt who saw his shot blocked before Barbour fired the rebound well over. On the hour Watt played the ball out to Barbour on the left and then took the return pass into the box only to see his shot blocked by Kulbacki who dropped on the rebound.

A minute later Barbour had his shirt pulled back as he tried to wriggle free inside the penalty area. Harris slotted home the resultant penalty to increase the Broch’s lead. On 68 minutes the Broch striker completed his hat-trick when he got on the end of a Barbour cross to loop the ball over the Fort keeper with his head.

With four minutes remaining second half substitute Paul Campbell rifled in a 20 yard shot which produced another good save by Kulbacki. On 88 minutes Grant Campbell drove into the box but the Fort keeper saved well from the Broch midfielder. Watt the tried his luck from distance but his effort went just wide. In the last minute Duncan played the ball down the right to Paul Campbell and his cross was swept over by Butcher at the near post.
