Combe departs for Formartine United

Fraserburgh Football Club can confirm that Aidan Combe has left to join Formartine United for an undisclosed fee. The attacking midfielder/winger who joined the Broch from Keith’s youth team made 179 appearances scoring 27 times, including the club’s 7000th competitive goal in the match at home to Rothes in December 2015.

Aidan made an immense contribution during his time at Bellslea being part of the Highland League winning squad last season and being involved in 5 Aberdeenshire Cup winning finals and two Aberdeenshire Shield winning teams.

He was a popular figure in the dressing room and will be hugely missed around the club, everyone at the club would like to wish him all the best for the future.

100 up for Kieran Simpson

Congratulations to Kieran Simpson for his 100th appearance for the club last night in the 1-1 draw at Banks O Dee.

Kieran made his debut on 10th February 2018 in a Leaue Cup tie at home to Fort William. He also scored that day in the 9-0 win. He has scored a total of seven goals in his 100 appearances.

Welcome back Greg Buchan

Fraserburgh FC are delighted to announce that Greg Buchan has returned to the club following his transfer from Huntly. The 24 year old midfielder made his debut for the club against Strathspey Thistle in July 2016 and scored his first goal four weeks later against Cove Rangers in a 2-2 draw at Christie Park. In total Greg amassed 16 goals, including a double against Fort William in the 13-0 home win in November 2018 over 117 appearances.

Having been loaned out to Deveronvale during the 2020/21 season, he then signed for Huntly in June 2021 and was instrumental in helping the club to last season’s Aberdeenshire Shield Final against Banks O’ Dee.

Manager Mark Cowie made no secret of his happiness to be reunited with Greg. “We are delighted to get Greg back at the club as we know that we weren’t the only interested party in him. We made a decision last year that saw Greg leave us and go to Huntly but that decision was made with Greg’s best interests in mind. At the time Grant Campbell was a big part of our team and Greg’s game time was not what he was looking for. We could have kept him at the club and he would have featured in our games, but we felt that for Greg to develop into the player we know he could be, then we would have to let him spread his wings a bit and play more regularly at another club. Since he has moved he has improved quite a bit in terms of his confidence and how he puts his stamp on games. I’ve known and coached Greg since he was around 13 years old and have always known the ability and potential he has had. Circumstances within our squad changed in the summer and had a big impact in our midfield area. With the resigning of Greg, I now feel we are stronger as a group in that area than we maybe were when we went in to the Premier Sports Cup games. Greg is excellent on the ball but can also press and be energetic too. He has a very good footballing brain and can see things change on the park and therefore adapt and keep playing his part in the games. All in all I’m really looking forward to seeing him back at the Bellslea and think he will continue to go from strength to strength at our club. He has already fitted straight back in to the squad and I’m really looking forward to working with him again”.

Everyone at Fraserburgh FC wishes Greg all the best on his return to the club

Welcome aboard Connor Wood

Fraserburgh FC are delighted to announce the signing of Connor Wood from North Region Junior side Aberdeen East End on a two year contract. The 22 year old was thrown straight into the action in Wednesday night’s Evening Express Aberdeenshire Cup Quarter Final match, netting a spot kick in the epic penalty shootout which the Broch won 11-10.

Manager, Mark Cowie, outlined why the club were keen to bring Connor to the club. “We have been watching him since the beginning of the season and have been impressed with his performances. We lost a few players in the summer and since then have always been looking to add to the squad, but it had to be the right fit. We were patient in our pursuit to make sure it would work for both parties and we are delighted with the outcome and getting the deal over the line. Connor will bring pace and power to the side but he can also play and showed already he can knock the ball about. He has a good eye for goal and an all round calmness to his play. He is a good kid who I think will fit right at home here and I look forward to working with him and seeing this phase of his career develop with us”.

Everyone at Fraserburgh FC wishes Connor all the best in a Black and White shirt.

Kyle Wood makes first team debut

Congratulations to Kyle Wood, pictured below, who made his competitive debut for the first team in last night’s SPFL Trust Trophy match against St. Johnstone B and gave a composed and assured performance. He had been involved in some of the Broch’s pre season friendlies and featured in the last couple of squads as an unused substitute.

Kyle, who turned 16 in April, played as a trialist for the U18s last season and will continue his development in both the U18s & U21s this term. The former Dyce Boys club player has also been loaned out to Stoneywood Parkvale Juniors this season where he will gain valuable experience and playing time against battle hardened opponents.

He is another young player who has the talent and ability to go a long way in the game, hopefully in a Broch shirt.

Arrabest Lewis Duncan

Everyone at Fraserburgh Football Club would like to wish Lewis Duncan all the best for his new adventure in the United States at Iowa Lakes Community College.

The flame haired former Aberdeen youth player signed for the Broch in 2020 making his debut against Inverurie Loco Works in an Aberdeenshire Cup match in November. He made 53 appearances for the club in total scoring 12 times and helping them to Aberdeenshire Cup success in 2020/21 and of course the Highland League title last season.

Lewis will be trying out for the Lakers Soccer team hoping to win a place on their roster for 2022/23.

600 up for Willie West

Saturday’s match against Buckie Thistle saw Willie West rack up his 600th competitive appearance for the club. Willie made his debut a couple of weeks short of his 16th birthday against Fort William in November 2003. He scored his first goal for the Broch away to Buckie Thistle on 21st January 2006 and has amassed 161 goals in total which places him 6th in the club’s all time top scorers table. Willie has twice scored 4 goals in a match for the Broch both against Deveronvale at the Bellslea, firstly in October 2017 in a 7-3 romp and then again in August 2018 in a 5-1 win. He has also notched 4 other hat-tricks twice away to Fort William and one each against Keith and Turriff United.

Willie sits behind Billy Gordon (721) and Jimmy Young (680) in overall appearance for the club. He is one of the most decorated players in the Broch’s history winning the Highland League once, lifting the trophy as club captain last season, the Highland League Cup once against Cove Rangers in May 2006 when he scored one of the goals in a 4-1 win. He was also part of the team that won the last ever Qualifying Cup Final against Keith at Banff six months later. Add to that 5 Aberdeenshire Cup winners medals, including scoring both goals against Formartine United in the 2019/20 final and 3 Aberdeenshire Shield winners medals that’s quite an impressive haul.

Hopefully there will be a few more finals and winners medals before the veteran, who has turned out in almost every position in a Black and White shirt, hangs up his boots.

Congratulations Willie from all at Fraserburgh FC on your achievements so far.

Ethan Sutherland makes first team debut

Congratulations to Ethan Sutherland who made his competitive debut for the first team as a substitute during Tuesday night’s Premier Sports Cup match against Partick Thistle.

Ethan, who just turned 16 last month, featured for both the U18 and U21 teams last season scoring twice in 15 appearances and will no doubt continue his development in both teams again this term. He is another young player who has the talent and ability to go a long way in the game, hopefully in a Broch shirt.

Ross Taylor first team debut

Congratulations to Ross Taylor who made his competitive debut for the first team as a late substitute during Tuesday night’s Premier Sports Cup match against Montrose.

Ross, 17, featured for both the U18 and U21 teams last season scoring 10 goals in 23 appearances and will no doubt continue his development in both again this term. He is another young player who has the talent and ability to go a long way in the game, hopefully in a Broch shirt.

Jordan, Connor & Jamie make debuts against Killie

Congratulations to Jordan Guild (28), Connor Grant (18) and Jamie Maclellan (17) who all made their competitive debut for the club in yesterday’s Premier Sports Cup match against Kilmarnock.

Jordan played the whole game having just signed for the club during the week after impressing during our pre-season matches. Both Connor and Jamie came on in the second half and all three players acquitted themselves very well against their Premiership opponents.

I’m sure all three of them will go on to make many more appearances in a Broch shirt.
