Broch secure nap hand of contract extensions

Fraserburgh Football Club are delighted to announce that Paul Young, Ryan Cowie, William West and Zane Laird have agreed to renew their contracts until the summer of 2025 with Scott Barbour extending his contract until the summer of 2028.

Paul, Ryan, Willie and Scott were an integral part of last season’s Championship winning side whilst Zane has stepped up to the first team squad this season and netted his first goal for the club in the win at Strathspey Thistle back in August. Manager, Mark Cowie was keen to get all five to commit their futures to the club and was highly delighted that they did so.

Paul Young joined the club in the summer of 2017 from Turriff United and is homing in on 200 appearances for the Broch. He is seen as one of the most complete midfielders in the Highland League and has notched 32 goals to date.

Ryan also joined the club from Turriff United just over ten years ago and has become a mainstay at left back with over 300 matches behind him. His threat from set piece deliveries always makes him one to watch and he has bagged 27 goals for the club. Sadly, injuries have blighted this season for him so far but hopefully he is nearing full fitness again.

Scott’s exploits at the club need no introduction. 219 goals in 310 games to date and that doesn’t take into account his time away at Formartine United!! Last season Scott was named Highland League Player of the Year which was a fitting accolade on his contribution to the title success. There has been no let up this season with another 18 goals scored, including last Saturday’s winner against Buckie Thistle.

Willie’s contribution to the Broch over the last 19 years cannot be understated. Club captain, winner of multiple honours including lifting the League trophy against Forres Mechanics and now third behind Billy Gordon and Jimmy Young with 620 appearances for the club. He has also notched 164 goals which makes him fifth in the all-time goalscorers list only four behind Graham Johnston in fourth place.

At the other end of the spectrum Zane is just starting out on his first team career. He has come through the ranks and been a prolific scorer in the U18 and U21 teams. His goals this season are one of the big reasons the U21s are top of the GPH Builders Merchants Aberdeenshire League after six matches. He is definitely one to watch for the future.
